Quantum technology

Why is it in News?
  • Indian Government has proposed Rs 8000 Cr in development of quantum science and technology in its budget session.
Details:
  • GoI started prorgamme QuEST to explore possibilities and engage with researchers.
  • Quantum technology:
(1) Quantum technology is a class of technology that works by using the principles of quantum mechanics (the physics of sub-atomic particles), including quantum entanglement and quantum superposition.
(2) It is a fundamental theory in physics which describes nature at the smallest – including atomic and subatomic – scales.
(3) At the scale of atoms and electrons, many of the equations of classical mechanics, which describe how things move at everyday sizes and speeds, cease to be useful.
(4) In classical mechanics, objects exist in a specific place at a specific time.
(5) However, in quantum mechanics, objects instead exist in a haze of probability; they have a certain chance of being at point A, another chance of being at point B and so on.
  • What is quantum entanglement?
(1) Quantum entanglement is when two atoms are connected, or entangled, despite being separated.
(2) If you change the properties of one of them, the other changes instantly.
  • China:
(1) It used quantum communication technology through satellite Micius for secret conference.
  • Secure Communication:
(1) Secure Communication:
(2) Nanomaterials development .
(3) Disaster Management.
(4) Pharmaceutical and new drug development.
(5) Quantum computers
