- Delhi government is planning for ‘Wetland Mitra’ for conservation of wetlands and creating of awareness about the conservation.
Details:
- School children above 12 are visualized as mitras.
- Person can work for 2 years and will get certification from Delhi Government.
- Wetlands :
(1) A wetland is a place where the land is covered by water, either salt, fresh or somewhere in between.
(2) Marshes and ponds, the edge of a lake or ocean, the delta at the mouth of a river, low-lying areas that frequently flood—all of these are wetlands.
- Role of wetlands:
(1) Groundwater recharge
(2) Biodiversity
(3) Climate change
(4) Flood control
(5) support animals—including mammals, birds, fish and invertebrates
