South Asia multilateral meet
Why is it in news?
- China held its third multilateral dialogue with countries from South Asia.
Details:
- The third multilateral dialogue, held virtually was attended by every South Asian country except India, Bhutan and the Maldives.
- The meeting was attended by Pakistan, Nepal, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
- The dialogue was aimed at anti-epidemic cooperation and poverty reduction cooperation.
CPEC extension:
- At the eaelier dialogue with Afghanistan, Nepal and Pakistan, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi proposed extending the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to Afghanistan.
- China also proposed taking forward an economic corridor plan with Nepal, called the Trans-Himalayan Multi-dimensional Connectivity Network.
