Former Supreme Court justice Justice L Nageswara Rao was selected to revise the Indian Olympic Association's constitution and prepare the electoral college.

The former high court judge will provide a fair and development-oriented strategy for the country's future Olympic games, according to a bench led by Justice D Y Chandrachud.

By December 15th, 2022, the Supreme Court ordered Justice Rao to draught a roadmap for revising the Constitution and conducting elections.

The Supreme Court also granted Rajeev Mehta and Adille Sumariwalla, the IOA's vice president and secretary general respectively, permission to attend the upcoming meeting with the International Olympic Committee set to take place on July 27.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) issued a final warning to the IOA on September 8th, stating that if the organisation didn't rectify its governance difficulties and hold elections by December, the international sports body will ban India.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is the organisation in charge of choosing the athletes who would represent India at international sports competitions like the Olympic Games and Asian Games.
