INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF MILLETS (IYOM) 2023

About

During the ninth session of the Governing Body (GB-9) of the International Treaty (Food and Agricultural Organisation), which was hosted by the Government of India in New Delhi, a side event on International Year of Millets (IYOM) 2023 was organised.

The farmers of Millets were the subject of the IYOM-2023 side event.

The government of India has designated 2018 as the National Year of Millets in an effort to revive the crop, stimulate demand at home and abroad, and meet rising need for healthy, affordable food.

India submitted a proposal to the United Nations in 2021 to have 2023 designated as the International Year of Millets (IYOM).

When India proposed making 2023 the International Year of Millets, 72 countries voted in favour of the idea.
