- Supreme Court asked status report from National Green Tribunal appointed Yamuna Monitoring Committee about river water quality.
Details:
- It seeks report about committee’s recommendations to improve the quality of water and the extent to which the States have implemented their suggestions.
- SC had taken Suo- motu cognizance of the contamination rivers by sewage effluents.
- SC stand:
(1) Open surface water resources including rivers are lifeline to human civilization.
(2) Deterioration of water quality has direct co-relation with quality of public health.
(3) Right to pollution free water is protected under right to life.
