Why is it in News?
  • H5N8 subtype of influenza A virus is reported in Kerala.
Details:
  • It occurred in Kottyam and Aluphuza districts.
  • It is found in ducks.
  • Culling of ducks has been undertaken in affected areas.
  • While H5N8 strain has lower spreading efficiency among humans compared to H5N1, it can be lethal to birds.
