LIVE STREAMING OF SUPREME COURT PROCEEDINGS
Following a full court meeting, the Supreme Bench's top court agreed that all Constitution Benches hearings would begin live streaming on September 27.
All of the court's judges are present at full court sessions. The decision was made during a meeting on September 20 that was presided over by Chief Justice of India (CJI) U U Lalit.
This month, Senior Attorney Indira Jaising wrote to the court's judges to request live streaming of hearings on subjects of public and constitutional importance.
In the "Swapnil Tripathi" decision from back in September 2018, the Supreme Judicial had declared that the right to access justice under Article 21 of the Constitution included live telecasts of court sessions.
A number of the country's High Courts already broadcast their hearings live on YouTube. The Supreme Court started live-streaming its hearings last month.
