These leaders talked on a modernised approach to diplomacy that                   emphasises an active dialogue between UNSC members and strategic             allies
United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)

Its headquarters are in New York City, and it was founded in 1945 in accordance with the United Nations Charter.

It is one of the UN's six main bodies and acts as the body responsible for formulating most of the organization's policies.

It offers a distinctive forum for multilateral discussion of the entire range of international issues covered by the United Nations Charter.

Every one of the 193 United Nations members states has an equal number of votes.

Background

The focal points for India, France, and the United Arab Emirates met in trilateral fashion in July 2022.

The following potential areas of trilateral cooperation were discussed by the three parties as they traded viewpoints on the Indo-Pacific region.

Maritime Security, Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief (HADR), Blue Economy, Regional Connectivity, Multilateral Fora Cooperation, Energy and Food Security, Innovation and Startups, Supply Chain Resilience, and Cultural and People-to-People Cooperation.

The next actions to be done to strengthen trilateral cooperation in the Indo-Pacific area were also discussed by the three nations.

A follow-up meeting to the one held in July 2022 is taking place concurrently with the UNGA.

Highlights

Collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region, where India views France as a vital ally.

Maritime security, regional connectivity, energy and food security, and supply chain resilience were the main topics of debate.

Strategic partners

Despite their differences, the three nations are strategic allies.

The current conversations centred on finding areas of commonality and figuring out how to further define and concretize these connections.

Plurilateral gatherings: a fresh approach to diplomacy

Such multilateral gatherings represent a new and modern approach to diplomacy.

It is becoming easier to find a shared agenda thanks to venues like the Quad (Australia, India, Japan, US), I2U2 (India, Israel, United Arab Emirates, and US), and trilateral between India, France, and Australia.

These are distinct from past groups, such as the SAARC, BIMSTEC, ASEAN, and the EU, which were regional and bordered entities.

The BRICS group was an exception.

Currently, nations that share certain shared interests but are not neighbours or next to one another in a region are cooperating.
