Dr Virendra Kumar, Union Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment, officially opened the District Disability Rehabilitation Centers (DDRCs).

For the past 20 years, people with disabilities have received effective rehabilitation treatments from District Disability Rehabilitation Centers (DDRC) located all over the nation.

These facilities are jointly operated by a reputable NGO and the District Management Team, which is led by the DM/Collector (Usually Indian Red Cross Society).

The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment Government of India has conceptualised a MODEL DDRC to upgrade its services.

Nine of these model DDRCs, namely Badaun, Pilibhit, Barielly, Balaghat, Golaghat, Ahmedabad, Amravati, Kullu, and Rampur, were raised to model DDRC status in the first phase, and Dr. Virendra Kumar, Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment, virtually inaugurated these 09 model DDRCs.
