ETHANOL PLANT AT PANIPAT
News: Important Points
- On August 10, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate through video conference the 2nd Generation (2G) Ethanol Plant in Panipat, Haryana.
- The government has made a number of efforts over the years to increase the production and use of biofuels in the country.
- It is consistent with the persistent efforts of the prime minister to make the energy sector more affordable, accessible, efficient, and sustainable.
- The 2G Ethanol Plant was constructed by Indian Oil Corporation Limited at an estimated cost of approximately nine hundred crore rupees. The initiative will usher in a new era in India's waste-to-wealth efforts by utilising around two lakh tonnes of rice straw (parali) annually to produce approximately three crore litres of Ethanol annually.
- Additionally, the project will contribute to a decrease of Greenhouse Gases equivalent to approximately three hundred thousand tonnes of Carbon Dioxide equivalent each year.
