SWACHH SURVEKSHAN (SS) 2023

About

MoHUA launched SS survey 2023 with the theme 'Waste to Wealth'

It aligns with SBMU 2.0's commitment to circular waste management and promotes 'garbage-free' cities.

SS is the world's largest annual survey of cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation in Indian villages, cities, and towns.

Evaluation for SS-23 is based on 3 components
  1. Service Level Progress - Covers Segregated collection, Processing, and disposal, Used water management, and Safaimitra Suraksha
  2. Certification - For Garbage Free City star rating and ODF/ODF+/ODF++/water + certification.
  3. Citizens’ voice -Through feedback, grievance redressal, engagement, etc.
Objectives of Swachh Survekshan
  1. Act as enabler for the mission acceleration in cities
  2. Foster healthy competition among cities to improve their performance on sanitation parameters
  3. Encourage large scale citizen participation and create awareness about importance of Swachhata
  4. Improved sanitation services by cities to citizens

Waste source segregation, city waste processing capacity, and landfill waste reduction have been prioritised.

SS-2023 ranks city wards.

Cities will be assessed on 'open urination' (Yellow Spots) and 'open spitting' (Red Spots) issues.

SBM-U 2.0, launched in 2021, ensures grey and black water (used water) management in all cities other than those covered by AMRUT.
