India-U.S. defence cooperation
- The U.S. Secretary of Defense General Lloyd James Austin III (retd), met Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Key outcomes of the meet:
- India resolved to intensify defence cooperation with the U.S. Central Command in Florida and with the U.S. Commands in the Indo-Pacific region and Africa.
- Austin described the partnership as a “central pillar” of the American policy for the Indo-Pacific.
- In clear hind to China, Mr. Austin said the relationship is a stronghold of a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
- Bilateral discussion covered the following:
(1) Military-to-military engagement across services
(2) Information sharing
(3) Cooperation in emerging sectors of defence
(4) Mutual logistics support.
