Why is it in News?
- INCOIS is planning to map ocean floor of Andaman and Nicobar , and Lakshadweep islands.
Details:
- INCOIS stands for Indian National Centre for Ocean information Services.
- Ariel mapping of Ocean Floor is also called as ‘Bathymetric’ Study.
- It will take help of National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC).
- NRSC has already done high resolution topographic airborne laser terrain mapping for entire coastal areas.
- Significance of study:
(1) Prediction of Tsunami in the views of recent Tsunami near Indonesia.
(2) Tsunami early warning system will be more effective as recent Tsunamis were result of landslides under seabed.
(3) It will help to predict cyclones more effectively.
