Bhagyalaskmi temple and Charminar

Why is it in News?
  • According to Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), there is no record of chilla (small shrine) of Bhagyalakshmi Temple at the Charminar monument.
Details:
  • ASI stand:
(1) The Bhagyalakshmi Temple abutting the Charminar ‘came into existence’ after the merger of Hyderabad State with the Union of India.
(2) It was adjacent to South Eastern minaret of the Centrally Protected Monument.
(3) There are no records of the chilla at the monument.
(4) As per the AMASR Act 1958, the construction of temple adjacent to the south eastern minar of the Charminar has considered by the ASI as an unauthorised construction.
  • Charminar:
(1) It was declared a Centrally protected monument under the Ancient Monuments Preservation Act of 1904.
(2) It was built in 1591 by Muḥammad Qulī Quṭb Shah, the fifth king of the Quṭb Shāhī dynasty.
(3) The Charminar is a grand architectural composition in Indo-Saracenic style.
(4) It is built of granite and lime mortar with stucco ornamentation.
(5) A multisided column rises on each corner of the structure and, atop a lotus-leaf base.
(6) Each minaret is accessed via a spiral staircase on its interior wall and consists of four levels.
(7) Each level features a delicately colonnaded covered walkway around the exterior wall.
