Ambassadors’ team to study situation in J&K
Why is it in news?
- European Union Ambassadors are expected to visit Jammu and Kashmir to study the situation on the ground there.
Details:
- The visit of the envoys has not been officially announced yet.
- However, the European Union’s European External Action Service (EEAS) confirmed their acceptance of the External Affairs Ministry’s invitation.
- According to Jammu & Kashmir officials, arrangements are being made for about 20 Ambassadors and diplomats.
Background:
- Provisions of Article 370 and 35A, were scrapped on 5 August 2019.
- The decision was followed by restrictions in J&K, including internet shutdown.
- The shutdown was criticized on line of human rights violation.
