Supreme Court stays implementation of farm laws
Why is it in news?
- The Supreme Court stayed the implementation of three controversial farm laws.
Details:
- The Supreme Court called its order “extraordinary” and a “victory for fair play”, while staying the laws.
- Now the Centre cannot, for the time being, proceed with any executive actions to enforce the laws.
- The court formed a four-member committee of experts to listen to the grievances of the farmers on the laws and the views of the government and make recommendations.
Background:
- The farmers across Punjab, Haryana and several other states were protesting against the government's new farm laws.
- Most farmers believes that the reform is not delivering on the promise of freedom to farmers but freedom to private capital to purchase the produce at cheaper prices.
- There were apprehensions among the farmers that Government may gradually move out of MSP mechanism.
