Gulf leaders signed a Solidarity deal

Why is it in news?
  • Gulf leaders signed a “solidarity and stability” deal after leaders of Saudi Arabia and Qatar publicly embraced.
  • The deal bring Doha back into the regional fold after a three-year-long rift.
Details:
  • Saudi Arabia had led a coalition of countries in the Gulf and beyond to cut ties and transport links with Qatar in June 2017.
  • Saudi Arabia had charged Qatar on its closeness with Iran backing of radical Islamist groups. Qatar had denied these allegations.
  • However, after three years, these countries signed a stability deal in Al-Ula.
  • Saudi Arabia now re-opened its land, sea and air borders to Doha.
  • Oman and Kuwait have mediated between the two sides.
