Gulf leaders signed a Solidarity deal
Why is it in news?
- Gulf leaders signed a “solidarity and stability” deal after leaders of Saudi Arabia and Qatar publicly embraced.
- The deal bring Doha back into the regional fold after a three-year-long rift.
Details:
- Saudi Arabia had led a coalition of countries in the Gulf and beyond to cut ties and transport links with Qatar in June 2017.
- Saudi Arabia had charged Qatar on its closeness with Iran backing of radical Islamist groups. Qatar had denied these allegations.
- However, after three years, these countries signed a stability deal in Al-Ula.
- Saudi Arabia now re-opened its land, sea and air borders to Doha.
- Oman and Kuwait have mediated between the two sides.
