Madhya Pradesh Anti-Conversion Bill

Why is it in News?
  • MP cabinet has given nod to Anti-Conversion Bill.
Details:
  • Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Bill 2020:
(1) It provides for 10 years of imprisonment and 1 lakh fine for conversion through marriage or any other fraudulent means.
(2) It will be non-bailable offence.
(3) There will be permission from district administration for conversion.
  • Article 25:
(1) It guarantees “freedom of conscience” to every citizen, and not merely to the followers of one particular religion.
(2) There is no fundamental right to convert another person to one’s own religion.
