Myristica swamp treefrog
Why is it in News?
- Rare Myristica swamp treefrog found first time in Vazachal Reserve forest in Kerala’s Thrissur forest.
Details:
- It is an endemic species to western ghats.
- It is normally found in Agastamalai hills.
- They are arboreal and active only for few weeks during their breeding season.
- During this season, males & females aggregate on the forest floor which descend from the trees.
- Unlike other frogs, their breeding season starts in the pre-monsoon season and ends before the monsoon.
- After breeding and egg laying, they return to high canopies of trees.
