Kerala’s wildlife rehabilitation

Why is it in News?
  • Kerala is planning to improve wildlife rehabilitation capabilities by establishing facilities to treat nurture injured and orphan big cats.
Details:
  • These facilities will be available for big cats and large carnivores rescued from wild.
  • Centre will be established in Thrissur on the lines of existing Chamarajendra biological garden in Mysuru.
  • Mysuru garden treats tigers, leopards, sloth bears, wild dogs and other.
  • Thrissur center will treat and send them back to wild and rehabilitate those which are permanently disabled.
  • This facility will be established in the background of increasing man-animal conflicts.
  • State has rehabilitation centre for captive & wild elephants at Kottoor in Thiruvananthapuram.
