NGT bans fire crackers in Delhi and other towns

Why is it in News?
  • NGT bans sale and use of fire crackers in Delhi and all towns having ‘poor’ air quality for Christmas.
Details:
  • Green crackers are allowed for 2 hours only.
  • Fire crackers manufacturers opposed the ban.
  • NGT stand:
(1) Right to business is not absolute.
(2) There is no right to violate air quality and noise level norms.
(3) Nobody has right to carry on business at the cost of others’ lives.
