  • BRICS Media Forum recently held virtual summit.
Details:
  • BRICS Media Forum is dialogue between media organisations from BRICS countries. 
  • Representatives of media organisations from BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) on Monday called for the five nations to work together to jointly combat the “virus of disinformation” in the pandemic era.
About BRICS:
  • BRICS is a grouping of leading emerging economies of the world including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
  • Formation of BRIC- The grouping was formed at the first meeting of foreign ministers of BRIC countries on the side-lines of UNGA meet at New York in 2006.
  • First BRIC Summit-Yekaterinburg, Russia, June 2009.
  • Entry of S. Africa- South Africa was included into the grouping in 2010 at the Foreign Ministers’ meeting in New York.
  • Structure of BRICS
  • BRICS is not in the form of an organization but it is held as an annual summit between the top leaders of BRICS
  • Chairmanship- Rotates annually among members in order pf B-R-I-C-S.
  • Objectives-
(1) To achieve regional development.
(2) Bridging gap between developed and developing countries.
(3) Removing trade barriers and minimising competition between member countries
(4) Reforming global financial institutions
(5) Intensifying cooperation within the grouping and among the individual countries for more sustainable, equitable and mutually beneficial development
