Government slaps duty on mobile panels

Why is it in news?
  • The union government has imposed 10% duty on the import of mobile displays.
Details:
  • Mobile phone prices are expected to rise about 3%.
  • The duty was proposed to be applied from October 1 under a phased manufacturing programme (PMP).
