Govt. retains borrowing plan

Why is it in news?
  • The Centre is stick to its Rs. 12 lakh crore borrowing plan for the year.
Details:
  • India’s fiscal deficit soared to 109% of the Budget target in just the first five months of the year.
  • The Centre had already enhanced its borrowing target for the year by Rs. 4.2 lakh crore to Rs. 12 lakh crore in May this year.
  • The government has borrowed Rs. 7.66 lakh crore in the first half of the fiscal and plans to borrow the remaining Rs. 4.34 lakh crore between October 2020 and January 2021.
