Few months after Karnataka approved a policy, the first marriage of a transgender person was registered in Bengaluru.

Transgender rights activist Akkai Padmashali married Vasudev V. on January 20, 2017, nearly four years after the Supreme Court recognised transgender rights.
However, it took the couple a year to formalise it. Mr. Vasudev said he had many documents to prepare, and Ms. Padmashali was too busy working on issues to think about the process.
The registration was a milestone not only for themselves, but also for many like her, Ms. Padmashali said: “It is a big thing to be recognised. The government should frame schemes to support transgenders’ marriage.
