Why is it in the news ?
- The Centre has prepared guidelines for setting up of crèches at workplaces.
- The guidelines prescribe trained personnel to man the facility as well as infrastructure requirements and safety norms.

Provisions of Maternity Benefit Amendment Act, 2017
- Maternity benefit amendment act enhanced paid maternity leave from a period of 12 weeks to 26 weeks.
- Providing crèche (day care) facilities is now mandatory for employers with more than 50 employees.
- Paid maternity leave has been doubled for women working at companies with at least 10 employees.
- India is now ahead of most developed countries, including Australia, France, Japan and the U.S.
