Four Nagaland officials held for diverting govt. funds to NSCN(K)


 

Why it is in news?

    • The National Investigation Agency has arrested four Nagaland officials for allegedly diverting government funds to banned terrorist organisation NSCN (K). 

About arrest

    • The accused in their official capacity provided substantial amount to NSCN(K) by way of contributing Government funds to the banned outfit, thereby supporting NSCN(K) in furtherance of its unlawful activities.
    • The four were arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Arms Act and Drugs and Cosmetics Act besides a section of Indian Penal Code related to extortion.

NSCN(K)

      • The Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland( NSCN) is a Greater Naga Revolutionist, Christian Naga nationalist insurgent group operating mainly in Northeast India, with minor activities in northwest Myanmar (Burma) until 2012.
      • The main goal of the organisation is to establish a sovereign Naga state, "Nagalim",which would consist of all the areas inhabited by the Naga people in Northeast India and Northwest Myanmar. 
      • The NSCN (K) has been designated a terrorist organisation in India under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. As per the Indian Government report this is the major insurgent group operating in Nagaland.
