India, China agree to establish new hotline
Why is it in news?
- India and China have agreed to set up a hotline between their Foreign Ministers to sort out issues such as border stand offs.
- However, the two countries differed on the way forward to resume normalcy in ties.
Details:
- The new hotline will be in addition to the agreed-upon military hotline between the Army’s Director General of Military Operations and Chinese PLA’s Western Theatre Command.
- The two nations had initially signed an agreement in 2010 to set up a hotline between the two Premiers. But it did not worked.
- Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and his Chinese counterpart acknowledged the disengagement of troops from the north and south banks of Pangong Tso lake.
