Iran and IAEA reach deal on inspections

Why is it in news?
  • The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced that a temporary solution to allow Iranian facility inspections to continue after days of talks with officials.
  • The visit between officials of Iran and IAEA held recently.
Details:
  • The visit to Iran came amid stepped-up efforts between U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration, European powers and Tehran to salvage the 2015 nuclear deal.
  • The 2015 deal has been on the brink of collapse since former U.S. President Donald Trump withdrew from it.
About IAEA:
  • It is a UN nuclear watchdog. It was established as an autonomous organization in 1957 through its own international treaty, the IAEA Statute.
  • Aim: To promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy, and to inhibit its use for any military purpose, including nuclear weapons.
  • Its headquarters are in Vienna, Austria.
  • It report to both UNGA and UNSC.
