New Monsoon Forecast models

Why is it in News?
  • According to IMD, it will introduce new forecasting models for monsoon.
Details:
  • In 2019 and 2020, IMD failed to forecast magnitude of ‘excess’.
  • It highlighted only that monsoon would be ‘above normal’.
  • 3 models to be tested:
(1) First 2 based on dynamic model.
(2) In this, climate on any particular day is stimulated on super computers and scientists observe the daily output.
(3) 3rd one is based on traditional statistical model.
(4) It will equate relationships of physical parameters such as sea surface temperatures, snowfall, landmass temperature etc.
