Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin called for transferring education back to the State List of the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution.

He said that only this would help to abolish the centralised examinations like NEET.

Education, originally a state subject, was moved to the Concurrent List by the Indira Gandhi government during the Emergency.

In the Indian Constitution, there are three lists that outline the distribution of powers between the central government and the state governments: the Union List, the State List, and the Concurrent List.

Union List: This list contains subjects on which only the central government can make laws. These subjects include defense, foreign affairs, currency, atomic energy, etc.
