Liz Truss, the current foreign minister of the United Kingdom, has been chosen to lead the ruling Conservative Party and become the country's next prime minister.

After a laborious six-week campaign, Liz defeated her opponent, former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak, by 81,326 votes to 60,399 cast.

She succeeds Theresa May and Margaret Thatcher as the third female prime minister of the United Kingdom. When Truss becomes prime minister, the UK is experiencing its worst cost-of-living crisis and soaring inflation.

After several months of scandal, Boris Johnson was compelled to announce his resignation in July of this year. After the announcement, Mr. Johnson will meet with Queen Elizabeth to present his resignation in person.

She is a Conservative Party member and has served as the South West Norfolk MP since 2010. Under Prime Ministers Theresa May, Boris Johnson, and David Cameron, she held a number of Cabinet positions.
