- Study found presence of animal products including cattle & buffalo in Indus Valley vessels.
Details:
- Study analyzed lipid residue in pottery found at the sites.
- About 50-60% of the domestic animal bones found come from Cattle/Buffalo.
- High proportion of cattle bones suggest consumption of beef on large scale.
- Traces found at sites of Rakhigarhi, Farmana, Masudpur.
- Lipid residue technique:
(1) Extraction & Identification of fats & oils absorbed in vessels.
(2) Lipids are less prone to degradation.
