President of India inaugurated the grand anointing ceremony — Mahamastakabhisheka — held once in 12 years at Shravanabelagola by unveiling an idol of Lord Bahubali in the presence of many saints, devotees and dignitaries.

Mahamastakabhisheka, the anointment of the Bahubali (Gommateshwara) statue, is an important Jain festival attended by lakhs of devotees.
Gommateshwara Statue is located at Shravanabelagola in Karnataka.
The festival is an integral part of the ancient and composite Jain tradition. The anointing last took place in 2006.
The ceremony this year is said to be the 88th in the series that commenced in the year 981 A.D.and second Mahamastakabhisheka of the 21st Century.
The event is being be held under the leadership of His Holiness Swasti Sri Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji of Shravanabelagola from 17-25 February 2018.
