Chargesheet against teenager in Gurugram school case

Why in the news ?

  • The CBI on Monday filed a chargesheet against a teenaged student for the alleged murder of his seven year old schoolmate, Prince, at a Gurugram school in September last.
  • The accused is being treated as an adult, as decided by the Juvenile Justice Board.

Details

  • The agency gave a clean chit to bus conductor Ashok Kumar, who was earlier arrested by the police on a confession allegedly extracted from him that he attempted to sexually assault the victim and then murdered him to evade detection.
  • The role of the police and the school is still under scrutiny.

  • The CBI said in its chargesheet that it was banking on forensic evidence, including fingerprint matching, analysis of the school’s CCTV footage, phone records, circumstantial evidence and statements of several students disclosing that the accused — addressed as “Bholu” in the report — had requested them to arrange poison or a knife so that he could kill someone.
  • His alleged motive was to somehow get the parent-teacher meeting and the examinations postponed.
