National Digital Health Mission (NDHM)

Why is it in news?
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the National Digital Health Mission , during his address to the nation on India’s 74th Independence Day.
Details:
  • Every Indian would receive a unique health identity card under NDHM.
  • The National Health Authority (NHA) would design, build, roll-out and implement the NDHM.
  • NHA is an attached office of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare which runs the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
  • NDHM would first be tested in the Union Territories of Chandigarh, Ladakh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Puducherry, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.
  • Based on the initial learnings, government will gradually work in partnership with the States to launch the NDHM.
Significance:
  • The NDHM would be a voluntary programme.
  • It would help reduce the gap among stakeholders, such as doctors, hospitals and other healthcare providers, by connecting them in an integrated digital infrastructure.
