  • The purpose of setting up such exclusive university is to assist students in higher studies and produce professionals for the disability sector.
  • “We have already sent a proposal for setting up a university to the Higher Education Department. A highlevel committee is examining its feasibility,” said the government official.
  • Once the committee clears the proposal, the department would push for mobilising funds for the institution.
  • The disability sector requires a large number of professionals for developing learning materials, innovating newer enabling technologies and handling the psychological aspects.
  • At present, Odisha does not have an institute of higher learning for persons with disabilities. “Except for Utkal University, Berhampur University and Ravenshaw University, no other institution has even a disability cell to assist students in higher learning.
  • Setting up of a university would not only cater to the needs of the disability sector in Odisha, but also help the neighbouring States in getting professionals.
